The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, will conduct the national-level Madhava Mathematics Competition at various centres in India in January.
The competition is primarily meant for students of the second year of any B.Sc. programme with Mathematics as one of the subjects. However, those of the first and third year will also be considered.
In Kerala, the three-hour competitive test will be held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Edathua, Alappuzha, Kochi, Aluva, Kolencherry, Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, and Kozhikode on January 5. Those who score above the cut-off mark in the test will be given cash prizes. All participants will receive certificates of participation. The competition aims at encouraging students with an aptitude for the pursuit of higher studies and research in Mathematics.
The competition is being held in memory of Madhavan, a 13-14th century mathematical genius from Kerala.
Students from Kerala can register till November 30, paying a registration fee of Rs. 50. Colleges may send a consolidated list of participants, along with a single demand draft favouring “Centre coordinator, MMC,” payable at Aluva.
