Venue: fSrinivasa Ramanujan Institute for Basic Sciences, Kottayam, Kerala
Powered by mathematical principles, group theory became a potent branch that enables one to relate the symmetry of an object to its physical properties. The structure and behavior of molecules and crystals depend on their different symmetries. Thus, an understanding on the molecular symmetry properties is essential in certain areas of chemistry. This workshop aims to provide the students with a thorough understanding of various areas of group theory in chemistry such as mathematical concepts behind group theory, identification of symmetry elements of molecules and solids and assigning the point group, construction of character
