National Workshop on Math Computing

The Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science are conducting a two day national workshop on L A TEX and Python for the benefit of the academic community. The workshop aims to enhance the documentation skills in LA TEX and programming skills in Python. L A T EX, a free open software, is an extremely powerful markup  language for creating structured documents. It is a standard writing tool for documents involving a large number of mathematical equations making it efficient for writing research publications. The workshop will explore the basics  of creating simple documents as well as advanced topics including plotting of graphs, bibliography and beamer.
Python is portable, flexible, user-friendly general purpose programming language for developing complex scientific and numeric applications. The navigation of the workshop begins with core concepts of Python giving emphasis to NumPy and SciPy.

The workshop is scheduled to have a significant amount of hands-on-hours of practice of all important concepts of Python and LATEX.

A two day workshop for the preparation of Model question papers for First Degree Programme
in Mathematics according to the revised syllabus for the year 2018 admission onwards is scheduled
be held at Department of Mathematics, University College, Thiruvananthapuram during 24th and
25th of October 2018.
Time: 9.30 a.m to 4.30 p.m.

Initiation into Mathematics 2018, Kerala – Modified dates

A one week long workshop for the third/fourth Semester undergraduate (B.Sc/Integrated M.Sc.) Mathematics students will be organized at the Milae-E-Sherief College, Kayamkulam, Alappuzha, Kerala during 19-24 December 2018. Most of the participants will be selected from students studying in institutes in Kerala. A few students from the other South Indian states Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana also will be considered.

The aim of this programme is to promote mathematical thinking and expose young minds to the excitement of doing mathematics. The lectures will be focussed on stimulating the participants to think and discover basic mathematical results in their own.
